The Web Bureau Do the Biz! (Part 1: Digital Marketing)

Web Bureau

08 February 2011 by Web Bureau

Yesterday, on a wet and miserable Monday morning, we took to the road and headed to Bizcamp Newry in the hope that the presentations in store for us would be somewhat more inspirational than the weather outside!

A variety of topics were on the agenda from marketing advice on web design, usability, online/digital marketing and copywriting to motivational and management advice.  For the remainder of this week, we are going to share with you some of the key messages we took from the day.

Digital Marketing

Niall McKeown of Belfast based digital agency, Ion got the ball rolling by stressing the importance of remembering the starting point of any marketing strategy, online or offline, ‘know your customer!’

Acknowledging the importance of getting your customers attention through good web design and search marketing, he also highlighted the need to evaluate the latest developments such as social media in the context of your business proposition to determine their ability to help you achieve your objectives.  Niall outlined three key interlinking requirements that a business needs to execute their online marketing strategy, talent, time and cash!

  • Talent – do you have the talent required to produce and deliver an effective online marketing strategy - if yes, do it and reap the rewards it can offer but if not, outsource it!
  • Time – if you have the talent, do you also have the time to devote to it – if yes, do it, but if not, outsource it!
  • Cash – do you have the cash required to pay an agency for their time and talent – if yes, do it, but if not, don’t embark on a digital marketing strategy! Without committing the resources required to do it well, you will not add value to your marketing efforts.

We were also reminded to integrate our online activity across all mediums (our website, social media, email marketing, online PR etc) with our offline activity to make that all important transition from capturing attention to converting leads into sales, remembering along the way that it is vital to provide good content in the right context!

Niall – thanks for an engaging presentation as always!
