The Role

Position: Wordpress Developer
Location: Belfast
Salary: Negotiable - depending on experience
Employment: 6-12 month contract

From FM104 in Dublin, to Cork’s 96FM, our Irish local radio brands are distinguished by their connections with their communities.

The Team

Our development team consists of developers covering a wide range of technologies such as  

  • PHP (WordPress, raw PHP)    
  • .NET       (Umbraco)   
  • Front End   (HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, JQuery)    

The section you will be working for is the PHP team, working primarily with WordPress. 

Your role: Software Developer 

Responsibilities

  • To be responsible for the development of internal and external customer-driven applications, including CMS configuration and development of business logic handling, back-end database integration and a wide variety of API integrations.  
  • You should be able to demonstrate an ability to model data and workflows to fit the business requirements in order to design a solution that will deliver on the objectives. You may be expected to work with databases using Raw MySQL, WordPress Query Builder and an ORM such as Doctrine or Illuminate this is true as much of WordPress or raw PHP development. 
  • Business logic and output are separated using templates, so while we use Twig on a daily basis, a familiarity with at least once template language would be beneficial. 
  • WordPress development in WEb Bureau is not simply a “Plugin & Configure” role, you should show capability in delivering using an MVC approach regardless of the underlying platform and be able to demonstrate and ability to code websites and/or plugins from scratch, while adhering to coding standards. 

 
Day to day you will:  

  • The day to day work consists of delivery of projects for our clients, both internal and external across a range of sectors, including but not limited to: tourism, entertainment, publishing, sport and eCommerce. 
  • Developers are required to take the outputs from the front-end and design teams and to `wire-them-up` to a CMS or Backend system to provide the dynamic functionality required, always working closely with other members of the delivery team. 
  • Typically these are brochureware websites built in WordPress. Developers are assigned to work in project delivery teams for the duration of a project and you would see a project through from start to finish. In addition to yourself, that fully in-house team is made up of Graphic/UX Designer(s), Front End Developer(s), Account and Project managers 
  • In addition to the above delivery team, we work closely with our colleagues in Tibus to deliver solutions with bespoke hosting or infrastructure needs, offering the ability to deliver all-encompassing solutions across the full tech-stack. 

 

What we’re looking for from you:  

  •  You’re an experienced developer with a passion for internet and related technologies, and the benefits that it brings to the business. Agency experience would be desirable however not essential.  
  • You must have a qualification in a relevant discipline and have proven experience of web-based application programming and database design/integration with particular knowledge of PHP, MySQL, WordPress, Linux, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, Git, Command line tools, SSH, Web Accessibility WCAG and web security such as the OWASP Top 10. 
     
  • You should be able to demonstrate awareness of S.O.L.I.D. principles and develop with best practice M.V.C approach, writing code that is easy for others to read, understand, update or debug as required.
